BRAND AND CREATIVEBNY Mellon Brand evolutioN
BNY Mellon, America's oldest bank, founded by Alexander Hamilton and the first stock traded on the NYSE, underwent a transformative journey to modernize its image. In this process, I played a pivotal role, engaging a third-party agency, orchestrating a meticulously planned project timeline, managing the budget, and overseeing the rollout of a design system encompassing over 60 widely used assets and creative templates. The evolution included a refined color palette featuring brighter, more expressive tones and dynamic color pairings for vibrant layouts. The introduction of a new typeface added boldness and dynamism, offering versatility from formal to expressive typography. The refreshed photography style enhanced existing standards with new color treatments for ownable and uniform photos. Warm and cool shadows added sophistication while maintaining a human and approachable feel. The incorporation of 3D graphics allowed the visualization of abstract concepts, conveying a modern, progressive, and innovative ethos. The vector system of patterns was evolved and simplified, drawing inspiration from the 21-degree angle of the BNY Mellon logo. These patterns subtly accentuated typography, data visualization, and design layouts.
